Youth Development

Our Youth Development work aims to offer and explore:

  • Youth Consultation
  • Careers in the Creative Industries (career pathways)
  • Designing cultural activities for young people by young people

We currently have two strands of work.

The Bright Space Youth Panel (BSYP) is made up of 16 students from six schools in Birmingham.

This year the BSYP are devising a Creative Careers Pathways research and development project and event. This work aims to offer clear sign posting to young people wishing to pursue a career within the creative and cultural industries. The Bright Space Youth Panel also have their own blog, which gives further information on the Creative Careers Pathways event as well as the aims and objectives of the group.

The Bright Space arts and social media project - 'Platform' will be a blog written by young people for young people featuring articles, reviews, events listings and much more.

Its aim is to empower young people to be able to access and navigate in and around cultural services and opportunities available to them in Birmingham. Ultimately it will support them in designing their own creative experience in the city.

We are currently recruiting bloggers aged 16-19. Please take a look at the Platform blog and video on vimeo  to find out more.  Deadline for applications is Monday 19 July 2010.
